Hi! I’m Kathy.
I am computer scientist, product leader, and founder with experience across the private and public sectors, and a love for developing products, building and leading teams, data, healthcare, and weaving the public interest and advocacy into all aspects of life.
I am currently the Vice-President of Artificial Intelligence at Workday; a Fellow and Adjunct Lecturer on Product Management at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government; a affiliate at the Harvard Berkman Klein Center and a former Fellow at the MIT Media Lab where my team founded ai-in-the-loop; Senior Advisor / Former Fellow at Mozilla where I co-founded and co-led the Responsible Computer Science Challenge and the Mozilla Builders Incubator; Founder and Executive Director of Product and Society; and founder of the Ethical Tech Working Group at Harvard and the The Ethical Tech Collective.
In recent government service, I was appointed the inaugural Executive Director of the National AI Advisory Committee, led as the Deputy Chief Technologist at the Federal Trade Commission where our team created the first Office of Technology at the FTC. I was a founding product and engineering member of the United States Digital Service (USDS), a tech startup in government at the White House, where I led and contributed to initiatives across the Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, and Precision Medicine Initiative, developing ways to bring better care and services to all people. One of the first product managers and engineers of USDS, I helped build the team from 10 to over 200. Prior to USDS, I held software engineer, product management, and data science positions at Google, IBM, and Harris Healthcare.
I founded Google's First Internal Business Intelligence Summit, founded Atlanta United For Sight, founded the Cancer Sidekick Foundation, placed first at the Imagine Cup competition representing the United States with a Sentiment Analysis engine, spoke at the White House State of STEM 2015, and invited as of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Guest at the 2015 State of the Union address for her work with healthcare, public service, and veterans. I have also been at the gaming finals for the After Hours Gaming League for StarCraft II, speaking at tech conferences, and hosting food themed Formula 1 Racing hangouts.
I hold undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia and from Supelec in Metz, France.
